The Downside of Cohabiting Before Marriage

Cohabitation in the United States has increased by more than 1,500 percent in the past half century. In 1960, about 450,000 unmarried couples lived together. Now the number is more than 7.5 million.

The territorial advances of moral relativism won since the sexual revolution are militantly guarded.

It is treacherous to challenge sexual-revolution orthodoxy, and to do so in the mainstream must always come with a great many, career protecting disclaimers.

Meg Jay seems to be giving it a try, daring to suggest that cohabitation before marriage is problematic, but being sure her New York Times readers understand that she has no problem with the phenomenon on moral grounds.

Disclaimers and all, it is a good piece, and should be helpful in the conversation.
